Farquhar and Hamilton win Irish motorcyclist awards

The NGK Enkalon Irish Motorcyclists of the Year awards were held at the end of October and resulted in a landslide victory for Ryan Farquhar.

With an amazing 29% of the racing fans votes the Dungannon rider accepted his award at the home workshop where he prepares all his machinery before jetting off to race in Australia.

Presented with his award before his flight to the antipodes, the 33 year old roads specialist was delighted saying, "I would like to thank all the people who voted for me.  And I am very sorry that I am unable to be there in person at the Awards but I will be raising a glass over in Australia!'

In a year that has seen one of racing most focused competitors surpass even the great Joey Dunlop’s race winning record, this award marks yet more recognition of the considerable talents of the Kawasaki Motors UK supported rider.

For Kawasaki fans, there was double celebration at the awards night as recently crowned Metzeler Junior Superstock rider, Jamie Hamilton, walked off with the most promising short circuits rider award.

Hamilton, who impressed with his race craft and overall professional having been inducted into the Gearlink Kawasaki team a few races after the season proper started. Taking up the challenge, Hamilton fought through and actually won the Championship with one round to spare.

Equally deserving of his accolade, Hamilton was grateful for the award saying: “It’s been a season to remember sure enough. To race for an official Kawasaki Motors UK team was a huge step up. I am grateful to Michael, Norma and all the technicians for getting me to this level of success so soon. I’d also like to thank Harry who has offered help and advice and certainly helped make me a champion.”
